2012 Summer Programs
  • STC's summer programs are one-week session in which students develop skills in the theater arts while building self-confidence in a safe and fun environment.
  • Classes are developed by professional educators and led by a staff of top Performing Arts students and recent graduates from Iowa State University.
  • NEW classes this year include Creative Dramatics for grades 1-2 and Summer Theater Club for youth entering grades 8-12.
  • Each program culminates in a free showcase performance for family and friends.
  • REGISTER EARLY.  Favorite classes fill up fast.  Register before June 1 to receive a discount.
  • Participants should register for programs according to the grade they will be entering in fall 2012.
  • To register, print the registration form below and mail it in with a check.  To pay by credit card, please use the PayPal buttons below.  Then print the registration form and mail it in.  Registrations are not complete until both the registration form and payment are received. 
 

Class Descriptions
 
SESSION I: CREATIVE DRAMATICS  New for Younger Children.  Only 5 spots left!
This is a new class designed to provide an introduction to theater while encouraging creative risk-taking and promoting self-expression.  A variety of games, literature, and activities will be used throughout the week, all centered on a Dr. Seuss theme. Showcase new skills at the end of the week.  For children entering grades 1-2.  June 25-29, 9:30-11:30 a.m., M-F.  Held at Ames City Auditorium.  Early Bird $75/Regular $90
 
SESSION II: ONE-ACT WORKSHOP “Witches, Britches, Rings and Things” Second section just added!
Participants study the fundamentals of acting as they rehearse and perform a patchwork of favorite folk and fairy tales.  For Children entering grades 3-6.  July 9-13, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., M-F.  Performance is Friday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m.  Held at Ames City Auditorium.  Early Bird $175/Regular $190.

 SESSION III: ONE-ACT WORKSHOP “The Audition” by Don Zolidis   Only 9 spots left
A new theater teacher is holding auditions for a production of A Chorus Line. Though the hopefuls range from shy to outrageous, and from diva-like to determined, everyone has a chance to step into the spotlight.   A hilarious and heartbreaking look at the madness of auditioning and the actors who brave the process for that perfect part.  Read an excerpt from this comic drama here: http://www.playscripts.com/plays/audition.pdf.    Participants focus on both comedic and dramatic acting techniques.  Please Note:  A Chorus Line will not be performed and no singing/dancing is required. For youth entering grades 6-12.  July 16-20, 9:00-4:00, M-F.  Performance is Friday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Held at Ames City Auditorium.  Early Bird $175/Regular $190

SESSION IV: MUSICAL THEATER SOLD OUT
July 23-27, 9:00-4:00, M-F.  Cabaret style performance is Friday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m.  Held at Pearson Hall on ISU Campus.

SESSION V: SUMMER THEATER CLUB  NEW for Teens
This new club is a chance for older youth to expand their theater skills.  This club will meet weekly in June and July to explore a variety of topics of interest to YOU: stage combat, auditioning skills, improv, scene study and more.  Class is led by our STC instructors with guest artists.  Free snacks during social time at 6:30 p.m.  Sign up for the whole summer or weekly.  To assist in our planning, we ask that you please send in a registration form regardless of whether you are attending occasionally or for the entire summer.  For youth entering grades 8-12.  Thursday evenings, June 7 – July 26, 7:00-9:00 p.m.  Held at Northminster Presbyterian Church. $100 for summer or $15 per week.
