Staged in 2008, STC is excited to re-visit The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in our 11th season! Auditions will be held on August 16th & 17th from 5 – 7:30 pm. Follow the link below to sign up for an audition time. Even if you are auditioning as a pair, each actor should sign up for only one slot so that the number of actors per block does not exceed eight. Please keep Thursday, August 18th, 5 – 7:30 pm open in case you are asked to attend callbacks.
This is a tentative rehearsal schedule. We try to include all the possible rehearsal days in order to allow you to plan and inform of of your conflicts. Please understand that there may be changes as dictated by the rehearsal process to ensure the actors and crew are able to give the best performance possible.
We are looking to build an ensemble of brave and collaborative individuals to accomplish this feat of storytelling. Role are available for 25 – 30 actors.
2 M (Edmund, Peter)
2 F (Susan, Lucy)
STC also utilizes students as crew members. If you are interested in helping backstage or learning about lights or sound, please come to auditions and fill out a crew form (you do not need to sign up for an audition spot; you can just show up and fill out the form).
This show will incorporate choreographed movement and stage combat, so the auditions will be broken into two components: Acting (individual or pairs) and group movement.
- Be sure to stretch before your audition.
- Do not worry about dressing up. Wear clothes that are comfortable. No flip-flops.
- Try to relax and have fun with the movement.
All auditioners will need to select one monologue or a two person scene from the script. This prepared piece should not exceed 2 minutes. Here are some good examples of selections from the text:
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (script for preparation only)
Tumnus – p. 9
“”Oh, how did I ever get myself in this fix …”
Edmund – p. 33
“Well, I’m sure they were all bad to the queen …”
Witch – p. 48
“Now who has won …”
Lucy & Tumnus – p. 10
“Good gracious me …”
Lucy & Edmund – p. 15
“But now we’re in Narnia”
Edmund & Witch – p. 16
“What pray are you …” (Cut dwarf line)
*There are many other options in the script for both a monologue or a scene. Feel free to select something besides those listed above – just be sure to find a clear ending for your scene.
Here is what we are looking for in those who audition:
*Please read all of the play and then ask yourself these questions? Answering them for yourself will make your performance more specific and interesting to watch.
- Where are we?
- When does this monologue take place?
- What has happened before this moment in the play?
- Who is the other character am I talking to?
Here at STC we believe honest performance make stories more accessible for an audience. So during your preparation, try not to force anything. Try to experience the situation of the character as realistically as possible. This will be easier if you are specific (see “Script Analysis” above). Ask yourself, how would someone handle this situation if it were actually happening?
We are looking for risk takers. Even if you are unsure about some of your choices, commit to the as fully as possible.
Remember: In theatre , there is no winning or losing. We are all here to tell a good story and we want you to do well. Come into the audition room prepared and ready to play!
Callbacks will be held from 5 – 7:30 pm on Thursday, August 18th. A callback doesn’t mean you aren’t going to be cast just as getting a callback does not guarantee you a role.
Participation fees for the 2016-2017 season are as follows:
- Cast: $135
- Crew $40
Scholarships are available.
Here at Story Theater Company, we are proud to offer professional instruction and quality production design (i.e. sets, props, and costumes). Our participation fee ensures that we are able to continue offering such performance opportunities to the youth of our community. The fee also includes two tickets, a t-shirt, the cast party, and a cast gift.
